Bluefield Daily TelegraphMONTCALM — A Mercer County sheriff’s deputy and a trooper with the West Virginia State Police responded to a call at 2:13 a.m., Thursday morning, concerning an unresponsive male, all-terrain-vehicle rider on a rural county road.
Deputy S. A. Sommers and Trooper S.A. Murphy of the Princeton detachment of the State Police responded to the call, and found the subject about a tenth of a mile up Montcalm Lowe Road off of Browning Lambert Mountain Road.
“We found the subject with an ATV on top of him,” Sommers said.
Sommers said the victim — Steven K. Simpson, 40, of Rock — apparently lost control of the ATV he was operating, ran off the road and hit an embankment. “The ATV rolled over on him,” Sommers said.
During his investigation, Sommers said he gathered evidence of alcohol at the scene. He said that Simpson’s remains have been sent to the state medical examiner in South Charleston. “I’m awaiting the results of the toxicology report,” Sommers said.
