SYDNEY – RCMP have released the name of the man who was killed in an ATV accident in Aspy Bay earlier this week.
Gary Rix, 63, of Mineville, N.S., was travelling on an ATV trail with 66-year-old Ronald Burbidge, of Dartmouth, when the vehicle went out of control and crashed about 11:20 a.m. Rix was treated by EHS personnel and the local Cape North Fire Department and was transported to Buchanan Memorial Hospital in Neil’s Harbour, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Burbidge was taken to Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney where he was treated for a separated shoulder and cracked ribs and subsequently released.
RCMP say neither speed or alcohol were factors in the accident. The ATV is being inspected for mechanical failure.
