PIERRE, S.D. (AP) Two teenage boys in Pierre escaped injury last night when their all-terrain vehicle was struck by a train.

The 16-year-olds were riding the A-T-V east of town when it hit some mud and they were thrown off.

The A-T-V, however, wound up on nearby railroad tracks and a train was coming.

The boys worked feverishly to get it off the tracks, but couldn’t budge it.

They also tried to flag down the train, but it plowed into the A-T-V while they dashed to safety.

A Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad crew was called to the scene to clean up the mess.
